States and citizens rights must be protected.
The Federal Government is sovereign and has certain specific duties as defined in the United States Constitution. Primarily national defense, postal roads, settling disputes between states, and making treaties on behalf of the states united. The States are also sovereign and "the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." (10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution)
The Founding Fathers knew well what it was to live under tyranny. They fought for freedom and organized a new nation ruled by law, not the whims of a dictator. They would not pass the Consitution until it included the Bill of Rights defining the basic freedoms as unalienable and not to be infringed upon...freedom of religion, right to bear arms, property, freedom against intrusion, speedy trial, etc. Today we have a nation struggling under heavy debt, unconstitutional laws and executive orders that take away our basic rights and may well bring this nation to its knees.
With national and international instability, natural disasters and the possibility of anarchy, the States must be prepared to manage their own affairs in a comprehensive way. In order to do so, the states must hold the Federal Government to its Constitutional duties and to respect the rights of the States and the people. The Federal Government is unconstitutionally and often irresponsibility in control of 3/4 of Idaho lands and resources/wealth. That needs to change.
Idaho is a great state, rich in natural resources and in its people. Many of our resources lie dormant due to unneeded and unconstitutional regulations. Idahoans are strong and independent, caring and wise. We will and must solve our own problems here. I will stand for the people of Idaho and for a return to prosperity and the freedoms our Founders gave us.-Terry Andersen
EDITORIAL: Progressive — sounds good and conjures up visions of a world without problems. In America, we have seen great progress. In the last 235 years, we have gone from horse and buggy to Space travel; from the pony express to immediate access to a world of information in the palm of our hand. We have advanced from snake oil concoctions to medical training and technology that has greatly extended our life expectency. We have developed supply lines that allow us to purchase commodities from all over the world. America is the birthplace of such inventions as the lightbulb, telephone, automobile, airplane, sewing machine, television and the ipod. In fact, in the last couple of centuries, America has progressed at such a fantastic rate that some refer to it as the "5,000 year leap". Why? because entrepreneurs had the freedom to dream and to achieve those dreams. BUT when "progressive" is applied to a federal political agenda, it generally means control and tyranny.
Our federal government is out of control, challenging of authority between the three branches of governement, spending beyond its means, no budget, passing unconstitutional laws, issuing overly burdensome regulations, failing to have an energy plan to provide reasonable gas prices and provide oil needed in every industry, demanding higher and higher taxes until business and industry seek more favorable circumstances in other countries, thus shrinking the economy. The size of unproductive government is growing at an unprecedented rate while the private sector shrinks making a population more and more dependent on the government for life sustaining support. In all this, the federal government is failing in its most basic constitutional responsibilities and joining with foreign nations to fight states who in the interest of self protection attempt to cover those federal responsibilities.
President Reagan said it best: “Don’t turn to the government to solve your problems — government is the problem.”
The limited powers granted the federal government by the states through the United States Constitution have been ignored. How can that be? Ron Mann, Deputy Director of the Commission for the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution, observed, “Sadly, with the passing of time, the Oath or Affirmation of office has become perfunctory. It has lost its meaning to many of our elected officials.”
With the failures of the federal government, the states in their "dual soverignty" with the federal government need to put their houses in order and be able to stand independent as well as interdependent with the federal government. If the 2012 election keeps the present administration in place, the country will face a much greater loss of basic freedoms, rights, and opportunity. If a Republican is in the White House, it is anticipated many of the federal programs will return to the states and the people as the ninth and tenth amendments to the U.S. Constitution declare they should be.
The States MUSTplay a MAJOR ROLE in straightening out the problems in America. To assist the great State of Idaho and standing strong for Idaho and its citizens, Terry Andersen seeks the office of State Senator - District 29. May God bless Idaho and the United States of America to survive and flourish again.
